Pete Dorn Race Recap + Legging Love

by Stephanie

Good Morning!

I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving weekend!  I certainly did.

It started off with a bang with my FIRST California road race.

I ran in 36th Annual Pete Dorn 8 Mile Memorial Race and did pretty freaking well {if I do say so myself!}.

I was up at 5:00, just so I could leisurely drink my coffee, eat a waffle + sunflower butter + 1/2 of a smashed banana. #love

The race was definitely low-key.  There were no racing bibs handed out, the roads weren’t closed down, no awards at the end.  {Which is kind of a bummer – I would have at least liked a number, so I could have something to show for the race…}

So anyways, we lined up in a parking lot and were off.

The course was basically one long, slow climb, but the tour through the vineyards totally made up for it.

My legs were h.e.a.v.y. right from the get go, so I was a little worried that I might run out of steam.  It was absolutely a mentally challenging race – there wasn’t a single moment of “oh, this is so easy!”  I’m attributing this to my ramped-up vacation workout schedule that preceded the race:

Monday :: beach run + 1 yoga classes + 1 personal training session + 40 minutes incline treadmill + another yoga class
Tuesday :: yoga + Ridge run (hill workout)
Wednesday :: yoga  + Bishop’s Peak (hills)
Thursday :: RACE DAY!
Friday :: yoga + Madonna Mt. (hills)

That’s a solid 10 hours of sweat time.

{Which I then ruined with pie and champagne over the weekend…}

Worth it!

In related news, I bought my first pair of leggings!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever.  They are just so comfortable.  I completely understand now.

{And yes, I have already pinterested how I will be wearing my leggings today.}

Something like this…

Okay, getting off track here…

Back to the race.

So it was hilly and I was tired, but I pushed through and ended the race with that lovely, satisfying feeling of working your hardest.

{Unofficial} Results
Time: 55:34
Pace: 6:55
Overall Place: 20th
Female Place: 4th
Age Group Place: 1st!

I’m pretty pleased with my pace, as I have definitely not been training at that tempo.

So now the goal is to keep it up, and shave off a few more seconds, so I can be on track for a 6:50 average mile pace.

Okay time to get in a quickie run!

Happy Monday, Y’all!

I am a Liar.

by Stephanie

So remember when I said that my first California race was going to be Castle to Coast?

Well, I lied.

{Unintentionally, of course.}

I am going to race tomorrow (!) in the 36th Annual Pete Dorn 8 Mile Run!

Woohoo!

Mapped out via Daily Mile.

It sounds like it’s going to be pretty low key, as there is no pre-registration and no fee, just a suggested donation ($10 + 3 canned goods).

I’m so stoked!

That’s all I really want to do tomorrow for Thanksgiving.

I seem to be missing the excited-to-stuff-my-face-with-turkey gene…

I may or may not skip out on Thanksgiving and eat froyo in bed.

Doesn’t that sound way better?

In all seriousness, the froyo is just a vehicle for the mochi.  Those little marshmallows dudes are the SHIT!

So the lesson for today: If you aren’t going to gorge yourself on turkey and stuffing, make sure you have enough froyo and mochi to even it all out.

We like to keep things fair, people.

I joke, I joke.

I would be a bad dietitian if I didn’t lay down some mad Thanksgiving knowledge for you.

No need for deprivation, just be a rockstar and use your measuring cups.

Trust me, you will feel so much better if you do.

Alright gangstas, I’m outie.

Time to get downdawg at Yoga.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today’s Post is Brought to You by the Letter M. M for Meme.

by Stephanie

Day 2 of Thanksgiving break.

Man, I wish I could just workout for a living.  Wouldn’t that be just the best?  Mix that in with some nutrition counseling, and I’d be golden.  I really need to get cracking on my ACSM personal training certification.

So my plan for today?

1) Get in a hill workout without dying.

See Exhibit One:

Yeah, that would be last Monday’s epic fail on Madonna Mt. Going too fast, caught some loose gravel, and booop!  In front of some dude too. #mymiddlenameisgrace

#notreallyitsmarie

Shut up, bad advice cat.

2) Get my oil changed.

3) Get a haircut.

I was totally thinking bangs and little layering on the side too…

4) Take Yoga.

And one more in the name of yoga…

I mean, come. on.

Girls and guys alike can appreciate dat ass.

Damn. Can I get one of those?

Time for running and many squats.

Peace out yoga booty lovers.

My First California Race

by Stephanie

Good Morning!

It is a gorgeous sunny day here on the Central Coast – the perfect way to kick off my Thanksgiving Break!

Woohoo!

My plan is to just relax, clean, and workout.

So today:

  • Beach Run
  • Yoga at noon with my favorite teacher
  • Get my tires checked out – the flat tire light is on… wah wahh
  • FREE Personal Training session at 3:00 (thank you Kennedy Fitness!)
  • Yoga Flow at 4:30
  • Drink wine

Not too shabby, eh?

So in other news, I signed up for my first California race!!

I’m going to run Castle to Coast on January 19th!

It’s a shorty 8.2 flat and fast course.

Last year’s 1st place woman ran a 6:15 average min/mile pace, and the second place winner ran  6:58s.

I’m thinking I can get my butt back in racing gear to come in somewhere between that.

As you may probably don’t remember, I ran an average 6:59 pace at last Spring’s Flower City Half Marathon.

My goal is still a sub-1:30 half, so if I could be running at a 6:50 pace, I would be on the right track for that. And with 5 miles less in Castle to Coast, I think this is totally, 100% doable.

Woo!

I’m excited!

I have a goal!

6:50s here. I. come.

With that being said – anyone have any ideas where I can do dreaded track workouts?

Sorry to end on that note! Ha!

Happy Monday!

Whirlwind of a Day

by Stephanie

AHH!

Whew, lemme just breathe for a second here.

I have been go, go go since I woke up this morning – Working on some very exciting things!

First exciting thing:

On the Road to RD got a face lift!  How do you like the updated look? New header, new fonts, new profile picture {a la Nick Nameless}.  I felt it was time for a little spruce up.

_____

Second exciting thing:

I think I’ve found an apartment in California!

Source

This has been my mission over the past four days: making calls, setting up appointments, juggling schedules, sending e-mails.

Today I turned in my rental application, and as long as everything goes smoothly, I will be living in a gorgeous 3 bedroom with my two lovely roommates right on the golf course and the beach! AH!

A huge shoutout to my intern girls who helped scope the place out for us!

_____

Third exciting thing:

I have all my ducks in a line for my Cal Poly paperwork, and will be sending that out tomorrow!

One less thing I have to worry about!  September 4th will be here before I know it!

_____

Fourth exciting thing:

The folks at Chebe contacted me to see if they could feature my Fresh Moz and Basil Pizza Muffins on their Facebook.

I of course said #jeah! Check it out yo!

_____

Fifth exciting thing:

I am going to Yoga in the Gardens tonight!

How fun is that? I’ve always wanted to take an outdoor yoga class! And this is the perfect way to calm my racing mind.  I may also try out Min’s Cucumber Face Mask.  Helloooo stress relief. :)

_____

Ahh.

Just by writing that all out I feel some relief.

Peace Out.
